What is Surface Tension?

Now you will find everything you want to learn about plasma technology and plasma in plasma academy. First, let’s look at the effect of plasma on surfaces. With plasma technology, we can affect surface tension. So what is surface tension?

  • When we talk about the surface tension of any liquid or solid, what we are actually talking about is the tension of the surface of the liquid-solid in contact with the air.
  • In other words, what we mean by the surface tension of water is the tension formed by the liquid atoms between the water surface and the air surface. Likewise, there are liquid-solid interfacial tensions between liquid and solid.
  • For example, it is this liquid-solid interfacial tension that provides this capillary effect. Factors affecting the surface tension: temperature, solute type and ratio, air pressure

Surface tension is briefly called the effect that makes the surface layer in liquids behave like a flexible membrane. Therefore, liquids act flexibly and shrink or, in simpler terms, take the shape of a drop. The reason for the surface tension is that the electrical forces between the surface molecules and the molecules in the interior differ and the electrical force acting on the molecules on the surface is not balanced.
